Okay, so let's talk about scoring that dream job of yours. We all know the job market is crazy competitive, right? But fear not, because I've got some killer strategies to help you navigate through it like a pro. Check 'em out:
1. Manage Your Time Like a Boss:
Alright, first things first, block out some solid chunks of time every day to focus solely on your job search. Mornings are usually best when you're fresh and ready to conquer the world. Use this time to scout new job postings, network like a champ, and polish up that resume and cover letter.
GOOGLE CALENDAR 📅 is my best friend but you can use any planner/reminder type app based on your preference
2. Use LinkedIn's Alumni Feature:
Ever checked out that nifty alumni feature on LinkedIn? It's a goldmine! You can scope out people who've graduated from your alma mater and now work at companies you're eyeing. It's like getting insider info on whether a company's worth your time. Plus, hit up these college buddies who've already done some digging into a company to get the lowdown.
3. Break It Down into Two-Week Sprints:
Don't overwhelm yourself with a never-ending job search. Break it down into two-week intervals. Set some goals for each period, like applying to a certain number of jobs or reaching out to a bunch of contacts. Then, at the end of those two weeks, take stock of your progress and adjust your game plan as needed.
“For example, My weekly goal is applying for 10 jobs a week. “
4. Keep Track of Everything:
Seriously, start a Google Sheet or something to keep tabs on your job search hustle. Note down when you applied for a gig, the company's name, who you contacted, and where things stand. This way, you'll stay organized and on top of your follow-ups. I absolutely HATED this but it really is helpful. I use it to create stats of myself lol.
Here’s a version I’m using!
5. Spread the Word:
Shout it from the rooftops—well, maybe not rooftops, but definitely let your friends, family, and former colleagues know you're on the hunt for a job. You never know who might have a lead or a killer connection to hook you up with.
Nowadays you need to get a foot in the door, a connection is always helpful! They can help you re-submit a resume to their hiring manager or provide a referral. You never know where a possible opportunity can come from.
6. Tailor Your Resume and Cover Letter:
When it comes to your resume and cover letter, don't just settle for generic templates. Use CHATGPT for free editing and as a jumping-off point for more efficient and creative customization. Here's how:
Customization is Key: Avoid blasting out the same old generic resume and cover letter to every job posting. Instead, take the time to customize them for specific roles you want apply to. While applicant tracking systems (ATS) to filter candidates do look for keyword, copy-pasting job descriptions into your resume hasn’t been proven to be the best method.
For instance, I have one for project management and marketing.
CHATGPT for Editing: Utilize CHATGPT for free editing services to ensure your documents are polished and error-free. Whether it's grammar, formatting, or content refinement, having a second pair of eyes can make a big difference in the quality of your application materials. And it saves time like CRAZY!
Inject Creativity: Don't be afraid to inject some creativity into your resume and cover letter. Use Chargbt as a starting point to brainstorm unique ways to showcase your skills and experiences, making your application stand out from the crowd.
7. Follow Up Like a Pro:
Follow up, follow up, follow up. Don't just sit around waiting for a response . Send a polite follow-up email to thank the interviewer for their time and express your continued interest in the position. BUT ALSO, continue to follow up to help you be on their radar. Always better to be annoying than uninterested.
An example of a follow up letter to express interest:
Subject: Follow-Up: Checking In Regarding [Job Title] Position

8. Handling Rejections with Grace:
Receiving a rejection can be disheartening, but how you respond to it can make all the difference. Here's how to handle rejections with grace:
Express Gratitude: Always respond to rejections with a gracious and appreciative tone. Thank the employer for considering your application and taking the time to inform you of their decision. This leaves a positive impression and keeps the lines of communication open for future opportunities.
Seek Feedback (if appropriate): If the employer provides feedback or constructive criticism, embrace it as an opportunity for growth. Use this feedback to improve your skills and enhance your future applications. However, only request feedback if it's appropriate and offered by the employer.
Stay Positive and Persistent: Remember that rejection is a natural part of the job search process. Stay positive and don't let setbacks deter you from pursuing your goals. Don’t use rejection as a reason to not send a thank you email. (I was definitely guilty of this)
Keep the Door Open: Finally, express your interest in future opportunities with the company. Let them know that you remain enthusiastic about the organization and would welcome the chance to be considered for other roles that may arise.
An example of rejection response letter:
“Hi there,
Thank you for getting back to me and for considering my application for the [insert job] role. While I'm disappointed to hear that the position has been filled, I appreciate you letting me know.
I understand that finding the right fit can take time, and I'm grateful for your continued efforts to match me with suitable opportunities. I remain enthusiastic about exploring roles that align with my skills and interests, particularly the [insert position you mentioned].
I'll make sure to keep my information updated with you to ensure I'm considered for future opportunities that match my criteria. Please feel free to reach out if you come across any roles that you think would be a good fit for me.
Thanks again for your ongoing support and assistance.
Best regards,
Tiffany”
9. Utilize Social Media Platforms:
In addition to traditional job search methods, don't overlook the power of social media platforms like TikTok. Here's how you can use them to your advantage:
Join Job-Seeking Communities: Explore TikTok to find groups or communities focused on job hunting. These groups often share valuable tips, resources, and job opportunities.
“For example, the "Unemployed Community" slack channel by Giovanna Ventola is a great place I’ve become connected with others who are in a similar situation and exchange insights and support.”
Stay Updated: Follow relevant hashtags and accounts related to job searching to stay informed about the latest trends, job openings, and industry news. TikTok's algorithm can also recommend content tailored to your interests, making it easier to discover valuable resources.
If my job search has been dipping in results. I look to Tiktok for inspiration of things I can try for trial and error every month.
10. Never Stop Learning:
Keep that brain of yours hungry for knowledge. Invest in some online courses or workshops to pick up new skills and certifications relevant to your field. It shows potential employers that you're serious about staying on top of your game.
I’ve made my own website to practice my writing and share my daily thoughts like this! You can check it out here
So, there you have it—your roadmap to job search success. Stay focused, stay positive, and remember to lean on your network for support. With these tips in your back pocket, you'll be well on your way to landing that awesome gig you've been dreaming of. Go get 'em!
